Exciting opportunities for learning are always welcomed here at The Langley Academy and recently our students had the privilege of working closely with Jackie Brooke from PE Active. The session provided an invaluable insight into the GCSE and A Level examination, leaving a lasting impact on our students’ academic journey. Jackie Brooke, an esteemed figure in the field of physical education, delivered an engaging session that captivated our GCSE and A Level students. Her expertise and passion shone through as she shared invaluable tips, strategies, and practical advice to excel in their examinations.

A Level PE Visit to Oxford Brookes University

Key-Stage 5 Engagement Day in Sport, Physical Activity and Health Promotion

We are thrilled to share an exciting highlight from our A Level Physical Education program: a recent visit to Oxford Brookes University that provided our students with a remarkable opportunity for academic enrichment and personal growth. Our A Level PE students embarked on a memorable journey to Oxford Brookes, where they immersed themselves in a stimulating environment tailored to their academic interests and aspirations. This visit not only offered a glimpse into the world of higher education but also served as a platform for fostering student engagement and igniting a passion for learning.

The visit to Oxford Brookes University proved to be an excellent opportunity for our students to explore various facets of physical education and sports science. From state-of-the-art facilities to interactive lectures and practical demonstrations, our students were exposed to a wealth of knowledge and expertise that broadened their horizons and inspired their academic pursuits.

One of the highlights of the visit was the exceptional level of student engagement observed throughout the day. Our A-Level PE students actively participated in discussions, asked insightful questions, and eagerly absorbed the wealth of information presented to them. Their enthusiasm and curiosity not only impressed the faculty at Oxford Brookes but also reaffirmed our commitment to nurturing a culture of academic excellence and lifelong learning within our school community.

Year 8 Basketball

TLA's Year 8 basketball team showcased their prowess on the court in a thrilling fixture against Ditton Park Academy. The game, marked by end-to-end action and impressive displays of skill, ended with TLA securing a convincing 16-6 victory over their opponents.

"It was a fantastic performance from our Year 8 team," remarked Coach Evans. "Their dedication and hard work during lunchtime PE sessions and after-school basketball clubs truly paid off. The players demonstrated great teamwork and determination throughout the game."

Reflecting on the victory, Michael Jordan's words resonate: "I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed."

The win not only highlights the team's skill but also their commitment to continuous improvement and excellence on the court.

Year 9 & 10 Basketball

In a closely contested fixture, The Langley Academy's Year 9 and 10 basketball team displayed remarkable resilience and skill against Ditton Park Academy. Despite facing a 10-point deficit at one stage, the team rallied together, showcasing exceptional teamwork and determination.

"While the result didn't go our way, I'm incredibly proud of the effort put forth by our players," stated Coach Eshelby. "They never gave up and fought until the very end."

This setback will undoubtedly fuel the team's drive to bounce back stronger and continue to strive for success in future fixtures.

Year 11 Football

In a friendly fixture against Lynch Hill, TLA's Year 11 football team showcased a new style of play under the guidance of interim manager Mr Eshelby, following the absence of Mr Evans. With innovative tactics and a reshaped lineup, the team demonstrated exceptional cohesion and skill on the pitch. Mr Eshelby stepped up to the managerial role and introduced a fresh approach to the team, marking a significant departure from the rugby-style tactics previously incorporated by Mr Evans. Under Mr Eshelby's leadership, the team embraced a new philosophy, which emphasized fluidity and adaptability on the field. This shift in strategy allowed the players to explore different positions and play styles, contributing to their overall growth and development as a cohesive unit.

"This victory is a testament to the hard work and adaptability of our players," remarked Coach Eshelby. "Despite the changes in management, they embraced the new approach and delivered an outstanding performance."
In the spirit of resilience and determination, the team's triumph echoes the words of Vince Lombardi: "It's not whether you get knocked down, it's whether you get up."

Special commendations were extended to players such as Rafay, James, Tyler, and Ben for their exemplary contributions during the match. A special acknowledgment goes out to Azeem, whose unwavering dedication and resilience have been evident throughout the season, despite facing numerous challenges on the field and consistently being outmuscled in every game. Although the game being cut short due to technical difficulties, the team emerged victorious with a 2-1 win. The Year 11's will utilise footage from the game for their GCSE practical assessment, highlighting their commitment to excellence both on and off the field.

TLA Badminton Teams

Eight talented students from TLA showcased their badminton prowess at the recent tournament hosted by Hershel Grammar School. Divided into two teams of four, one representing Year 9 and the other Year 11, the athletes engaged in a thrilling display of skill and determination.

The competition format demanded each team to face off against their counterparts from other schools, engaging in a total of five matches. These matches comprised two singles and three doubles games, providing ample opportunity for The Langley Academy players to demonstrate their abilities.

Undeterred by the formidable opposition and fuelled by their passion for the sport, the Langley boys exhibited remarkable resilience and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Their performances were characterised by impressive plays and strategic manoeuvres, earning them admiration from spectators and opponents alike.

The Year 9 team showcased exceptional talent, progressing to the final and securing a well-deserved silver medal. Meanwhile, the Year 11 squad demonstrated their prowess by clinching the third position, earning a prestigious bronze medal for their outstanding efforts.

Reflecting on their achievements, team captain Harry remarked, "We battled hard and played amazingly well. Though we fell short this time, we're motivated to work even harder for the next tournament. With dedication and practice, we aim to secure victory in the future."
