TLA 6th Form: A Highly Sought-After Destination

We are thrilled to announce that TLA 6th Form continues to be a highly sought-after school destination, with 516 applications received from both internal and external students. This overwhelming interest underscores the exceptional quality of our educational provision.

Following a successful 'Taster Day' for our internal students, we extended a warm welcome to our external applicants during our 'Welcome Day' on 9 July. This event provided them with a comprehensive insight into our 6th Form offerings. The day's activities were thoughtfully designed to reflect our core character values of respect, resilience, and responsibility. Some of the day’s events included: student leadership and prefect insights, a tour of the school site, and an overview on Enrichment, preparedness and Academy life.

We were delighted to have the support of 10 dedicated alumni and scholarship holders during our Welcome Day. Their enthusiasm, guidance, and hands-on help made a real difference in creating a warm and engaging atmosphere for our potential new cohort.

A sincere thank you to each of them for their valuable contributions to the day’s activities - your involvement truly helped make the event a success!

As our prospective students await their GCSE exam results, we extend our best wishes to them and eagerly anticipate their arrival in September. We look forward to welcoming them into our vibrant 6th Form community.

New Laptops for the 6th Form Library

We are pleased to announce that the 6th form library has been equipped with two brand new laptops. These laptops are available for students to access their academic work, providing a valuable resource to enhance their learning experience. This new addition is expected to significantly benefit students by offering them the tools they need to succeed in their studies.

In Person talk with Anne Dell

Our 6th Form Science students, alongside with Year 10 triple Science students, had the opportunity to have an in-person talk with Anne Dell, one of Britain’s leading scientists, and a Professor of Carbo-Hydrate Biochemistry at Imperial College, London. Her laboratory is a centre of excellence, working with scientists around the world to define the biological roles that glycans play in health and disease.

Professor Dell, who was elected to the Fellowship of the Royal Society in 2002 and was awarded a CBE in recognition of her services to science in 2009, spoke to our students about her career, giving an insight into her research, and all her contribution to the Science; She has also given the students a preview about life at Imperial College.

Access Talk

Holly Plater, Access Coordinator from the University of Oxford gave an online presentation to students and the Scholars Club in particular where she provided an overview of the university’s application process, including interviews and tests. This is what Adam A. shared from his experience:

She [Ms Plater] spoke about the different pathways, as apprenticeships allow people to train while working. This was especially interesting because it means you don’t always need to go down the traditional university route to become qualified. The talk made me realise how diverse healthcare is and how many other roles there are in the field.   Allied Health professions offer levels 2, 3, and 6 apprenticeships, in roles like Radiology or First Response. It's an excellent choice for people who did not achieve the grades they hoped for or got a lower UCAT score than, expected.  The apprenticeships are very competitive. However, most universities do them.

Hip Hip Hooray - Exams are Over (Upcoming Results Day)!

The ending of a milestone… We look forward to welcoming our students back in August for A Level and BTEC results day, and until then, we wish them every success in their future endeavours.

Year 12 Visit to Royal Holloway

On Thursday 11 July, 36 Year 12 students took part in a fantastic visit to Royal Holloway, University of London, designed to give them a real insight into university life.

The day began with a session exploring why university might be the right path, encouraging students to think about their futures and the opportunities that higher education can offer. This was followed by a guided tour of the campus, including the iconic Founder’s Building, lecture spaces, and student accommodation.

After lunch, students took part in a study skills workshop, focusing on the key skills needed to succeed at university - such as independent learning, time management, and staying motivated.

The visit ended with a Q&A session with current student ambassadors, who shared honest and helpful insights into university life and answered a wide range of thoughtful questions.

Students represented the school brilliantly throughout the day and came away with a clearer picture of what university could look like for them. A big thank you to the team at Royal Holloway for making the visit so worthwhile.

Year 12 Politics Trip to Parliament and 10 Downing Street

On Monday 30 June, a group of Year 12 Politics students spent the day in central London exploring the heart of UK government and law.

The day began with a visit to the UK Supreme Court, where students had the chance to learn about the role of the judiciary in upholding the rule of law. It was a great opportunity to see how legal decisions are made at the highest level.

Next was a guided tour of the Houses of Parliament, including both the House of Commons and the House of Lords. Students learned about the history of the building, the legislative process, and the day-to-day workings of Parliament.

The highlight of the day was a very special visit to 10 Downing Street, where students were given a rare tour and took part in a Q&A session with an advisor to Keir Starmer. The discussion covered a wide range of topics, from party policy to the realities of working in government and gave students a unique insight into political life behind the scenes.

It was a packed and memorable day, and the students were a credit to the school throughout.
