Year 10
Work Insight Day

On the 5 July we held a Work Insight Day organised by Learning to Work with volunteers from six businesses - Risk Management with Satori Risk, Data Centres with SEGRO, Manufacturing with Nail Alliance, Recruitment with Hays, Marketing & Branding with Harvard, IT with Equinix.

After the insight sessions students had a Q&A with business volunteers from MCFT, Malik Legal Solicitors, VMWare, Johnson & Johnson, Immersive Computing Labs, Nail Alliance, CCS Media, CPS, SEGRO, Hays and Equinix.

Workplace Visit

Students from Year 10 had a workplace visit with Volker Fitzpatrick on the 18th July. Volker Fitzpatrick are an Engineering and Construction Company who are currently working at Heathrow T5. The day was held at the Renaissance Hotel and was run in conjunction with Heathrow Academy. Students heard from the CEO on his career path and were set a task to build a model out of Jenga blocks following a plan, and had to prepare and give a presentation on environmental sustainability, reducing carbon footprint and preserving nature.

Work Experience

Students had the opportunity to organise an own placement for 17 and 18 July and twelve students found themselves placements at companies such as BP Plc, Vertu Mercedes Benz, Additions Plus, local Primary Schools, Cinnamon Café, Morrisions Water Services, Post Office, Pharmacy, The Castle Hotel, IAG Tech and Windoors Int Ltd.

Year 12

Work Ready Conference

Year 12 students had a successful two days at their Work Ready Conference organised by Learning to Work on the 17 and 18 July.

Day one was held in the Academy and students rotated through sessions with six business sectors – Data Centres and Sustainability with SEGRO, Product Development, Healthcare, Marketing & Branding with Harvard and Risk Management with Satori Risk.

Day two was held at Ditton Manor and students listened to Guest Speaker Craig Atkins from IFix Ltd with his top tips to get where you want to go - take every opportunity that comes your way and attitude trumps grades. James Davidson from Rackspace gave great advice on putting together a CV to get you noticed plus some top tips on interview techniques. Students had a workshop on Building your Personal Brand with Shane Sale from Lucky 7 and Learning to Work. There were also sessions on Post 18 Pathways and the importance of LMI when planning their future or looking for jobs. The day ended with a speed networking session with 13 business volunteers from Tech, hospitality, business consultants, Health Care and more.

Work Experience

Year 12 students also had the opportunity to arrange their own work experience for these two days as an alternative and 20 students found placements at Leisure Centres, Primary Schools, Dentists, Sainsbury’s , SITA, Eton College Museum, media, care homes, logistics and tech companies. Five students were also succcessful at gaining four days' work experience with UCB Pharma.
