16-19 Bursary

What is the 16 to 19 Bursary Fund?

The 16 to 19 Bursary Fund provides financial support to help students overcome the specific financial barriers to participation they face so they can remain in education.

Who is eligible to apply for 16 to 19 Bursary Funding?

The 16 to 19 Bursary is targeted towards those young people considered most in need of financial support.

There are two types of 16 to 19 bursaries:

  • Vulnerable bursary: bursaries for defined vulnerable groups.
  • Discretionary bursary: bursaries to meet individual needs such as transport to school, books and equipment.

How do you apply for the 16 to 19 Bursary?

You will need to complete the application form in full and provide the evidence requested. Completed application forms are to be handed into the Sixth Form Office.

How does the Academy assess applications and allocate 16 to 19 Bursary funding?

Every application is taken on a case-by-case basis, using household income along with other factors to award bursary status. Following the initial application, a student finance support meeting will take place where the level of need and support is discussed. Support available is dependent on meeting agreed targets of attendance and behaviour criteria (96.1% attendance and an average Attitude to Learning Score of a 2).

When is the deadline for bursary application?

The deadline for initial applications is Monday 30th September 2024. This is for us to assess financial need across the Sixth Form and plan finances for the year. However, we do consider bursary applications throughout the year. Students also need to apply every academic year for the bursary fund.
