BackMoveNow Future Festivals:
A Day of Fun and Inclusion!
On Friday 3 May, students from TLA had the incredible opportunity to participate in the MoveNow Future Festivals held at Wexham School. This special event, a collaboration between the Youth Sport Trust and Allianz, was designed to build excitement and inspiration for the upcoming Paralympic Games. The goal was to create more opportunities for young people with additional support needs to achieve their personal aspirations in life and sport.
A Day to Remember
As the Lead Inclusion school for Berkshire, the SSSN hosted this fantastic event, inviting select secondary schools to bring teams of 12 pupils from Year 7.
Sports and Activities
The festival featured a variety of sports including:
- Archery
- Blind Football
- Judo
- Dancing
- Basketball
- Boccia
These activities, some of which are Paralympic sports, provided our students with new and exciting experiences. The event followed a round-robin format, where students rotated through different sports in their class groups, encouraging active participation and engagement.
Building Friendships and Promoting Inclusion
One of the most significant outcomes of the festival was the creation of new friendships. Students from our school and others came together, fostering a sense of community and inclusion. This was a wonderful opportunity for our students to connect with peers, both with and without additional needs and disabilities.
Reflecting and Growing
After each activity, students were encouraged to reflect on their experiences through a series of questions. This self-reflection helped build self-awareness and confidence, enabling our students to appreciate their abilities and achievements.
Celebrating Diversity
The festival was a celebration of inclusion and diversity, promoting these values not just in school, but in the wider community. It highlighted the importance of providing opportunities for all students to participate in sports and other activities, regardless of their abilities.
Looking Forward
The MoveNow Future Festivals was an unforgettable event that left a lasting impact on everyone involved. It was a day filled with fun, learning, and personal growth. We are incredibly proud of our students for their enthusiasm and participation.
A big thank you to the Youth Sport Trust, Allianz, and the SSSN for organizing this amazing event. We look forward to more opportunities like this in the future, where every student can shine and feel valued.
