Year 8 Fencing Festival
BackA group of Year 8 students recently had the exciting opportunity to attend a fencing festival at Langley Grammar School, where they were introduced to a completely new sport. For many of the students, this was their first-time trying fencing, but they embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and a strong desire to learn. Throughout the event, they worked both individually and as a team, competing against students from other schools and developing new skills.
Fencing is a sport that requires agility, strategy, and quick decision-making. The students had the chance to use key pieces of equipment, including the épée (sword), mask, and protective gear. This allowed them to experience the technical and physical demands of the sport while also learning about the importance of precision, reflexes, and respect for the opponent.
Trying new sports like fencing is a great way for students to expand their horizons. As they step outside their comfort zone, they develop resilience and confidence. As the famous saying goes, “You never know what you can do until you try.” This festival not only introduced the students to a new sport but also taught valuable lessons about perseverance and teamwork.
We hope to see more students taking up fencing and trying out new activities as the school year progresses!
