BackScholars Club
With Scholars this term we welcomed two Guest Speakers as part of our ‘Day in the Life of’ programme. Adrian Jugdoyal spoke about Pathways to a career in the NHS and journey from 6th Form to roles in medicine. We also welcomed Garry Stobart from University Campus of Football and Business (UCFB). He shared insights into this relatively new University and spoke about the opportunities available for students who chose the courses offered.
Both these activities were made available to all 6th Form students who expressed an interested in these areas. For both events we had 65 students attending.
Senior Citizens Christmas Party
All the Scholars took key roles in the planning, preparation and execution of The Langley Academy Senior Citizens Christmas Party. The Scholars agreed tasks and set up working teams to cover all the areas including drafting invitations, donation letters and managing the activities on the day. The task of involving the Scholars in the planning, preparation, and execution of this event offered several valuable benefits, both for the Scholars and the wider community e.g. developing leadership and teamwork, enhanced communication skills organization, time management, creativity and problem-solving, building confidence and self-esteem.
UCAS Applications for Year 13 Students
A significant focus for Year 13 students this term has been preparing and submitting their UCAS applications for university admissions. With many students applying for competitive courses across a range of disciplines, the application process has been both exciting and challenging. 109 UCAS applications have been sent, and significant number have been given conditional offers. Many are also doing interviews and others have dates for future interviews.
Time Planning Skills for Year 12 Students
For our Year 12 students, this term has also seen a strong focus on developing essential time management and planning skills. As they transition into the demands of 6th Form, effective time management is critical to their success. Students have worked through Coveys Time Management Matrix and are encouraged to use this to plan their working week.
Creating a Learning Environment
This term the students have continued to develop their use of the Study hub and put these skills in to practise. Using the environment to build their skills as independent and resilient learners using each other and the resources around them.

Mervyn Lyn, a renowned Music Marketing Manager, recently graced TLA with his presence, sharing his invaluable life experiences and achievements. His inspiring talk encouraged students to embrace their ambitions, with a powerful message: “Never undersell yourself!” He emphasized the importance of self-belief, personal growth, and leadership. Mervyn’s words empowered students to think big and follow their own unique paths. His impactful speech, focused on confidence and passion, and left a lasting motivation. Year 13 UCAS Applications
As we approach the end of this term, we are thrilled to share some exciting news regarding our UCAS applications. From our Year 13 cohort, an impressive 106 have already submitted their applications well ahead of the official UCAS deadline at the end of January. This early submission has not only demonstrated our students' dedication and preparedness but has also resulted in a wave of fantastic offers from some of the UK's top universities.
We are proud to announce that many of our students have received offers from prestigious institutions such as Queen Mary University of London, the University of Warwick, University College London (UCL), and the University of Manchester. These offers are a testament to the hard work and commitment of our students, as well as the support and guidance provided by our dedicated staff. We would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to all the students who have received offers so far and encourage those who are still waiting to remain positive. The journey to university is an exciting time, and we are confident that all our students will find the right path for their future. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this successful UCAS application season. We look forward to celebrating more achievements in the coming months.
Year 11 Taster Day: A Glimpse into 6th Form Life
On Friday 15 November, our Year 11 students had the exciting opportunity to experience a day in the life of a 6th Former during our recent Year 11 Taster Day. This immersive event allowed them to attend A-Level lessons in a variety of subjects, including new and intriguing options such as Government and Politics, Psychology, and Sociology.
Throughout the day, students navigated their schedules just like our current 6th Formers, spending their break times and lunch periods in the 6th Form Centre. This provided a fantastic chance for them to interact with peers, explore the facilities, and get a real feel for the vibrant and supportive environment of our 6th Form.
This event followed our successful 6th Form Opening Evening, where students and parents had the opportunity to learn more about the courses and opportunities available. We were thrilled to see such enthusiasm and engagement from our Year 11 students, and we hope this experience has helped them in making informed decisions about their future studies.
Reminder: Applications to our 6th Form are now open and will close on 31 January 2025. We encourage all interested students to apply as soon as possible. For more information on the application process, please visit our website or contact the 6th Form office.
Launch of the New Student Leadership Team for 2025
This term has seen the launch of the new 6th Form Student Leadership Team. Applications were opened to the current Year 12s on Monday 2 December where we have had a huge amount of interest. Students have been asked to complete an application form stating their suitability for the role and they have been asked to answer an improvement question, explaining one area of the 6th Form that they would look to improve/develop next year, and how they would look to do this. The role enables students to achieve significant self-development with regards to leadership, organisation, and communication. The role will also make a vital contribution to the continuing development of both TLA 6th Form and TLA as a community. We look forward to reading through final applications when we return in January.
6th Form Open Evening
A 6th Form Open Evening is an opportunity for students and their families to explore what our academy has to offer for post-16 education. During the evening, visitors learnt about the range of A-Level, vocational, and enrichment courses available, as well as the support provided to help students succeed academically and personally. Our staff and students were on hand to answer questions, share insights into the curriculum, and provide an overview of life in 6th Form. The evening included presentations from Ms Lusuardi, our Headteacher, and the 6th Form Team, showcasing the academy's ethos, academic achievements, and university or career pathways. This event is an excellent chance for prospective students to get a feel for the environment, meet subject specialists, and make informed decisions about their future studies. The evening was a huge success with over 300 people attending. We look forward to this year’s GCSE Results Day in August to welcome next year’s Year 12s.
