BackThis term has been packed with exciting sports events and achievements. Our students have shown incredible dedication, teamwork, and sportsmanship while representing the academy. Across all year groups, they have displayed resilience in competition, responsibility as representatives of the academy, and respect towards opponents, teammates, and staff.
Mastering Multiskills: Archery, VR, and More!
The Year 7 students had their first taste of inter-school competition at the Multiskills Festival. They participated in activities such as archery, tag rugby, fencing, and various VR games, all designed to challenge their coordination, teamwork, and athleticism. The event was a massive success, with students approaching each task with enthusiasm and determination, fostering a strong sense of camaraderie within the group.
Battling through Badminton
Out of the 40 games of badminton played that evening, we managed to win one. Facing a skilled opponent, the Year 7 badminton team fought hard in every match. They displayed resilience, even in losing positions, and learned to adapt their strategies during play. Their respect for their opponents and the spirit of the game were evident throughout the competition. “Success is not final; failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts.”
Powering through the Powerleague
The boys competed in their Powerleague tournament, showcasing their footballing talent and teamwork. The boys finished as runners-up on a cold evening in Slough, with Mr Evans demonstrating his tactical prowess - perhaps inspired by Arne Slot!
Year 7 Girls Powerleague
A huge thank you to Ms Imansoura and Ms Winch for taking the 16 Year 7 girls to the Powerleague tournament. Your dedication and support were instrumental in making the event a success.
A big well done to all the girls who participated! There were some real highlights throughout the matches, and it was fantastic to see promising players emerging. One of the girls' teams even achieved an impressive 3rd place finish—a testament to their teamwork, skill, and determination.
Year 7 Boys dominate St Edward’s
A solid win for the relentless Year 7 boys' team, who played with incredible skill and finesse. This closely contested match highlighted the importance of perseverance and fair play. Despite challenges, the team’s determination and mutual support shone through, earning praise for their sportsmanship.
Year 8 triumph over Slough & Eton
The Year 8 team delivered an impressive performance, reflecting their growing confidence and skill development. They demonstrated excellent teamwork and adaptability, managing to stay composed in high-pressure moments and showing respect towards their opponents. Mr Evans' motivational words undoubtedly contributed to their success.
Resilient Girls Shine in Powerleague
The combined Year 8 and 9 girls’ football team impressed with their tenacity and ability to work together seamlessly. Miss Mackenzie, well-prepared with her heated gilet, highlighted the girls’ heart and desire. Each player contributed to the team’s efforts, with standout moments of skill and sportsmanship in every match. Their unity and positive attitude were a credit to the academy.
Badminton Build-Up: A Warm-Up against Langley Grammar
The Year 9 and 10 badminton players showcased exceptional skill and determination. Whether competing in singles or doubles matches, they adapted their strategies, staying focused and resilient against strong opponents. This was a real warm-up for the KS4 Badminton Tournament on December 10th, with students scouting the competition and committing to fair play.
Year 10 display positivity against Burnham Grammar
The Year 10 team demonstrated excellent tactical play and teamwork in a highly competitive match. Their willingness to support one another and their positive attitude on and off the field were key highlights of the game. Despite limited fixtures this term, Mr. Eshelby is eager to see the boys perform again after Christmas.
Year 10 GCSE Students Lead the Way
Year 10 GCSE students played an essential role in organising and running the Primary Tag Rugby Festival. Acting as mentors and leaders for younger participants, their guidance and encouragement created a welcoming and enjoyable environment for all. This event showcased their leadership potential and commitment.
Bronze glory at KS4 Badminton Tournament
A standout highlight of Miss Mackenzie’s term, with the boys achieving a fantastic 3rd place - our best finish yet! In a fiercely competitive environment, KS4 players demonstrated remarkable persistence, focus, and skill. Their performances were a testament to hours of practice and their commitment to improving their abilities, along with impeccable badminton etiquette.
Year 11 GCSE PE Students benefit from Expert Exam Support
The Year 11 GCSE PE class recently had an exceptional opportunity to enhance their exam preparation through a full-day workshop with Jackie Brookes from PE Active. As an experienced professional in physical education and exam techniques, Jackie provided invaluable insights that captivated the students and enriched their understanding of the subject.
The day was structured to maximize engagement and learning, offering a mix of theoretical content, practical application, and interactive activities. Jackie’s dynamic teaching style ensured that every student stayed motivated and focused, making complex concepts accessible and relatable.
By the end of the session, the students expressed greater confidence in their ability to tackle the challenges of their upcoming exams. The knowledge and strategies they gained from Jackie are set to play a crucial role in helping them achieve their best possible results.

6th Form Footballers display their Skills
The 6th Form football team showed maturity and strategic thinking in their match against Ditton Park. Despite a challenging game, they worked together as a cohesive unit and displayed a deep respect for their opponents. School Captain James, who also represents the Brentford Partnership, scored an unbelievable goal, bringing pride to the academy.
Boccia Brilliance at Eton College
TLA took three teams to the Boccia Tournament at Eton College, showcasing the inclusive nature of sport. Led by captain Harry C., the team reached the quarterfinals, delivering a fantastic performance. Their dedication to teamwork and determination to overcome challenges were inspiring. The event provided an excellent platform for showcasing the values of inclusivity and perseverance.
