Empower Choices program

Year 7 students recently completed their first two classroom sessions of the Empower Choices program with PC Sloane. This program is geared towards helping young individuals navigate the decisions they encounter in their daily lives, with a strong emphasis on responsible digital citizenship. During these sessions, students engaged in thoughtful discussions about online safety, examining the potential risks associated with social media and the importance of safeguarding their personal information. PC Sloane's lessons fostered an interactive environment, encouraging students to share their insights and collaboratively brainstorm strategies for maintaining positive online behaviour.

In addition to online safety, the program emphasised the significance of being a positive citizen within their community. Through various scenarios and role-playing exercises, students reflected on how their choices can significantly impact both themselves and those around them. Many expressed newfound confidence in their ability to think critically about their actions and their consequences. The Empower Choices program is designed to equip students with essential skills that resonate both online and offline, promoting a culture of responsibility and awareness. With the enthusiasm demonstrated in these initial sessions, there is a growing sense of optimism that the program will empower students to make informed decisions and contribute positively to their communities as they navigate the challenges that lie ahead.

Science lessons

In recent science lessons, students have been actively developing practical skills that are essential for their understanding of scientific concepts. Through hands-on experiments and collaborative projects, they have been learning to apply the scientific method, from forming hypotheses to conducting experiments and analyzing results. Activities such as building simple circuits, conducting chemical reactions, and observing ecosystems have not only deepened their knowledge but also fostered critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. By working in teams, students have learned to communicate their findings effectively and have gained confidence in their ability to conduct inquiries independently. This experiential learning approach has made science more engaging and relevant, equipping students with valuable skills they can carry into future studies and real-world applications.

Menstruation and Puberty talks

Recently, Year 7 students had some useful talks about menstruation, puberty, and sanitary products. These sessions aimed to break the ice on topics that can sometimes feel awkward, encouraging everyone to ask questions and share their thoughts openly. It was great to see students learning about menstrual hygiene and different types of sanitary products, helping them feel more comfortable managing their health as they grow.
The discussions also touched on the changes that come with puberty, including how students might be feeling both physically and emotionally. By talking about body changes and self-acceptance, the talks helped normalise these experiences, reminding everyone that they aren’t alone in what they're going through. Students were able to connect with each other and leave feeling more informed and confident about this stage of their lives.

Year 7 Sparx

Our Year 7s have demonstrated an impressive commitment to their learning this term, achieving an outstanding 79% completion rate for their SPARX homework. This achievement reflects their hard work and responsibility in keeping up with their studies.
A special mention to 7AMa1 and 7BMa1 who have regularly completed 90% and 81% of all homework set out this year.

Year 7 Girls Sport

This term, Year 7 girls have really stepped up their game by getting involved in more sports clubs. It's been amazing to see how much fun they’re having while improving their skills and making new friends along the way. One of the highlights has been the Sports Bingo challenge, which has inspired many girls to try out different activities and embrace new experiences. Each time they tick off a square, they celebrate their progress and cheer each other on, creating a wonderful atmosphere of support and teamwork. This initiative not only makes being active fun, but also brings everyone together, fostering friendships and a sense of healthy competition. It's great to see such enthusiasm and camaraderie among the students.
