Stars of the Term
A big shoutout goes to our standout students of the term so far, who have been exceptional in both their attitude and performance.
Their efforts to maintain a Healthy, Active Mind and Body are truly impressive!
We are particularly impressed by their sense of responsibility. They consistently arrive with their full PE kit/Equipment for learning and go above and beyond by assisting the teacher with picking up and organising equipment. These actions reflect a maturity and strong sense of teamwork that we highly value within the faculty.
Their resilience during PE lessons is equally admirable. No matter the challenge, they approach every activity with 100% effort. When faced with setbacks, they don’t give up; instead, they work harder to achieve their goals. This determination will benefit them not only in sports but in all aspects of life.
Additionally, their respect towards both their peers and staff members is exemplary. They are always kind, polite, and considerate, setting a fantastic example for others. It’s clear that they are becoming role models within our PE Faculty, and we couldn’t be prouder. Keep it up!

Year 9 Kinball Adventure at Beechwood School
“What is Kinball?” That’s exactly what the Year 9 students and Mr Spilsbury were asking before their exciting trip to Beechwood School. Now they know!
Kinball is a team-based sport played with a large, lightweight ball (about 1.2 meters in diameter), where teams of four work together to keep the ball off the ground. Each team takes turns hitting the ball, but with a twist: they must call out the name of another team before hitting it, sending the ball their way. The objective is to outplay the other teams with quick passes, strategies, and strong communication.
It was an enjoyable and new experience for our Year 9 students, who had a great time learning the ins and outs of Kinball. This exciting sport could even be part of the PE curriculum next year - who knows! Thanks to Beechwood for hosting the event and to the Year 9s for giving it their all. Looking forward to seeing what’s next!
Year 8 Table Tennis Tournament v Al Madani
The Year 8 team took part in a thrilling table tennis tournament against Al Madani, showcasing some highly competitive matches in a positive and sportsmanlike environment.
There were some big wins and tough defeats, but the team gave it their all. Despite the final result not going our way, the boys enjoyed the experience, learned new tricks and skills, and gained valuable match practice. A great effort all around - onto the next challenge!
Year 8 Speed Stacking Event: A Showcase of Skill and Sportsmanship
The recent Year 8 Speed Stacking event was a resounding success, highlighting the exceptional talent and sportsmanship of our students. The event saw enthusiastic participation, with students competing in a variety of challenges that tested their agility, coordination, and speed.
Throughout the event, our students demonstrated exemplary behaviour, embodying the values of respect and teamwork that our academy prides itself on. Each participant gave their best effort, showcasing not only their individual skills but also their ability to work together and support one another.
The challenges were diverse and exciting, ranging from individual speed stacking races to team relay events. The atmosphere was electric, with cheers and encouragement echoing through the venue as students pushed themselves to achieve their personal bests. We are incredibly proud of all the students who took part in the event.
Their dedication, enthusiasm, and sportsmanship were truly commendable. They represented the academy with distinction, making the event a memorable experience for everyone involved. Congratulations to all the participants for their outstanding performances and for making the Year 8 Speed Stacking event a remarkable success.
Year 7 & 8 Basketball Team battles on as popularity grows
Basketball has taken centre stage this term, with Year 8 playing competitive fixtures against Langley Grammar School and Ditton Park. Despite two hard-fought games ending in defeat, the team remains determined to push forward, learning valuable lessons with each match.
One area of focus has been shooting accuracy, particularly three-pointers and free throws. The team has been working hard on their perimeter shooting, understanding that long-range accuracy can change the momentum of a game. Free throws, often the difference between victory and defeat, remain a key emphasis in training, as players strive to perfect their form under pressure.
Inspired by the words of basketball legends, the team continues to fight for success. As Scottie Pippen once said, "Hard work is what gets you the wins when talent isn't enough." Michael Jordan, one of the greatest players of all time, reminds us, "I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times, I've been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed."
With basketball’s rising popularity, we encourage all students who want to develop their skills to attend the basketball club every Wednesday after school. Keep practicing, keep believing, and that first win will come soon!
Year 9 & 10 Basketball Team Shows Grit and Growth
Basketball continues to be a major highlight this term, with the Year 9 and 10 team battling hard in their fixtures. While results haven’t always gone their way, the team has shown incredible determination, resilience, and a commitment to improving with each game.
A special shoutout goes to Theo, who has been a standout performer, scoring the majority of the team's points. His leadership on the court, willingness to take responsibility, and respect for both teammates and opponents have been truly commendable. His ability to step up in key moments reflects the mindset of a true competitor.
The team has been focusing on improving their three-point shooting and free throws, understanding how crucial these skills are in tight games. As Michael Jordan famously said, "Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen." The squad is embracing this mentality, working hard to turn effort into success.
With basketball’s popularity growing, we encourage all aspiring players to join the basketball club every Wednesday after school. Keep pushing, keep believing - the wins will come!
TLA Strike Their Way to 3rd Place at Salt Hill Lanes!
Six students represented TLA in this term’s bowling competition at Salt Hill Lanes, competing across multiple categories: single scores, team overall score, and the ultimate “Strike Master” title.
With some thrilling throws and deadly strikes, the team put in a fantastic effort, securing 3rd place overall! Special shoutout to Hot Shot Harry, who dominated the lanes with the most strikes and spares of the entire competition.
Year 9 Table Tennis Tournament
The Year 9 team stepped up to avenge the Year 8s in a thrilling table tennis tournament against Al Madani. This time, we came out on top, showcasing some highly competitive matches in a positive and sportsmanlike environment.
With big wins and impressive performances across the board, the team gave it their all and turned the tables on Al Madani. The boys played with determination, applying the skills they learned previously, and secured a well-deserved victory. A fantastic effort from Year 9 - well done!
Year 10 Football Team Win 4-1!
Mr Eshelby arranged a match for the Year 10 football team, and they secured a 4-1 victory against Burnham Grammar. The team showcased some fantastic football, displaying excellent patterns of play and teamwork throughout.
A special mention to Ethan for stepping up an age group and putting in a solid performance. Oliver S bagged his first goal for the Year 10 team - one to remember! Zak, Mr Consistent himself, popped up in the box to score, claiming it was a header (though some suspect it was off his shoulder). The win was sealed with a brilliant long-range strike from Carl, while Oliver N impressed with a marauding run from defence.
As always, Josh led by example, putting in a true captain’s performance, and the rest of the squad played exceptionally well to secure the result. Hopefully, we can carry this form into the next fixtures!
And to sum it up with a classic Roy Keane mindset: "Winning is what you’re here for. That’s your job. So do it right."
Year 11 Football Team Secures Hard-Fought Victory
The Year 11 football team had a thrilling fixture this term against Lynch Hill, and under the guidance of Miss Mackenzie, they put out a strong performance, securing a well-earned 3-2 victory. The team displayed great skill and determination, proving they were more than deserving of the win.
Throughout the match, the players showed resilience, especially when the game wasn’t going their way. Their ability to stay composed and fight back was key to their success. Leadership also shone through, with key players stepping up and taking responsibility for the team. Most importantly, there was an admirable display of respect - not just for teammates but also for the opposition - highlighting the team’s sportsmanship and character. A fantastic result for Year 11, and a great example of teamwork and perseverance paying off! Well done, boys!
Year 7, 8, and 9 Badminton Teams Compete at Herschel Grammar School!
Our Year 7, Year 8, and Year 9 badminton teams recently took part in a singles competition at Herschel Grammar School. It was an exciting opportunity for our players to showcase their skills, compete against other talented athletes, and gain valuable experience in a competitive setting.
We’re hopeful that they performed well and learned new techniques from the other players, sharpening their skills for future competitions. Events like these are a great way to not only test their abilities but also to build sportsmanship and develop new strategies.

Year 10 BTEC Sport Students Visit Twickenham – The Home of England Rugby!
The Year 10 BTEC Sport group had an exciting opportunity to visit Twickenham Stadium, the iconic home of England Rugby. Fresh off England’s victory over France in this year’s Six Nations, the trip was an inspiring experience for our students, offering valuable insights into the world of elite-level sport.
During their visit, students took part in a Component of Fitness Workshop, exploring how different aspects of fitness play a crucial role in modern rugby. They also had the chance to tour the stadium and museum, learning about the history and evolution of the game.
The workshop covered key topics such as:
- Training programmes and how they are tailored for elite athletes
- The impact of GPS technology on player performance and development
- Body mechanics and fitness components, and how specific combinations are essential for different positions on the field
This hands-on experience gave students a real-world understanding of the demands of professional rugby and how science, technology, and fitness combine to shape the sport at the highest level. A fantastic trip for our BTEC group, who left with new knowledge, inspiration, and a deeper appreciation for the game!
