Economics and Business Studies
The Year 13 Economics students have had a variety of intervention sessions this term starting with a 3-hour workshop on Macro Economics delivered by Sunil Nagpal.
On 3 February, the students received a fantastic boost to their exam preparations thanks to an online exam skills presentation from the world-famous Economist Geoff Riley from Tutor2U. Geoff’s expertise as both an examiner and Economics teacher proved invaluable as he guided the class through the economics papers 1 and 2. The session focused on particular strategies for tackling essay questions, effectively applying economic theory, and ultimately achieving the best grades that they can. The students actively engaged and taking notes as well as asking interesting questions about the papers. We are confident they’ll benefit greatly from the insights shared by Geoff.

Microbit Coding - Ms Drysdale-Mitchell
This half term we have been revisiting E-Safety and preparing for Safer Internet Week, which commences on 11 February 2025. Safer Internet Day is the UK’s biggest celebration of online safety. Each year it covers an online issue or theme that young people are seeing and experiencing online. In the enrichment club students combined online safety with Micro bits.
Student voice:
“During Micro-bits we discovered how to code and make mini games. I would recommend this club to beginners who want to start learning coding” - Jasmel
“In my opinion Microbits is a great way to be introduced to coding and it is great, fun and interactive to start learning how to code” - Yuvraj
“Using the Microbit was good as you can see on the Microbit what you have designed” - Jeevan
“I would like to become a programmer to design and code rockets or make games for Nintendo” - Pranav
“At the start I thought programming would be boring, but I found out it was one of the best ever. My favourite is programming the battleship”- Kriyansh
KS3 Coding Club - Ms Kaur
Students have been developing their programming skills by exploring the Code Club learning platform, where they complete a range of engaging tasks. By carefully following instructions, they progress through increasingly challenging levels, building confidence and problem-solving abilities along the way. It’s been fantastic to see their enthusiasm and determination as they refine their coding skills each week!

HTML & JavaScript Club-KS4 Enrichment - Ms Yarde
In this course, we have covered the fundamentals of HTML and JavaScript, including basic HTML layouts with forms and buttons, working with variables, generating random numbers, converting between strings and numbers, using conditional statements and loops, and accessing HTML elements via JavaScript. The image above displays a classic rock-paper-scissors game written in JavaScript. The user selects one of the three options, while the CPU randomly makes its choice. The accumulated results are then displayed.
