BackOur team is growing!
We are delighted to share that we have three members of staff joining the Museum Learning Team next term. Mr Whalley and Ms Rahman will be starting at the beginning of term as Cultural Learning and Participation Officers. Ms Kirby will be joining in July as our Museum Learning Administrator. Thanks to The National Heritage Lottery Fund for making this possible.
The power of craft
Year 7 students visited the Me, My Craft and I exhibition in their Art lessons to gather
inspiration for their clay designs. Students spent time delving deeper into the creative
world of Sir Grayson Perry and learning how craft can be used to express identity and
emotions.
Sir Grayson Perry’s style challenges the idea that pottery is merely decorative but can
be used to express, share, and reflect. He creates pottery that is conventional in shape
but depicts subjects that are in contrast to this. His work often challenges modern issues
and combines with his personal life to make people think and reflect on themes like
class, gender, identity, and mental health.
Museum Club
This term in club students have research the objects within our Me, My Craft and I exhibition and created tours. They had the opportunity to test their skills by leading a tour for the Head of Museum Learning and our current Museum Learning Placement Student.
Play Through Time - Thanks to National Lottery players’
Work has started on our first co-curated exhibition as part of our Playing with the Museum exhibition programme. How have games evolved? What do they teach us? Play Through Time will look at change and continuity of play by focusing on games and toys within the Trusts’ Childhood Collection.
So far, Nurture Group students have:
- reviewed and compared games from the collection
- researched objects via eHive (our new collection database)
- started to design their own boardgames with the idea of making past games modern.
Their hard work will form part of our Play Through Time exhibition on display at The Langley Academy next term. Their creations will also be exhibited at The Museum of English Rural Life this summer!
